My Role
As a Performance Analyst I monitor and provide analyses of the region's programs and services and prepare budget estimates/analyses. I also collect regional data with regards to what areas individuals are seeking assistance, make recommendations and forward recommendations to management. Some of my other tasks include analyzing statistical data, financial monitoring for an 84 million dollar budget and monitoring and performing financial audits.
I started off in a temporary administration role, and then it naturally progressed into a permanent administration role. I took courses through the government and went from the role of Administrative Supervisor to Corporate Regional Administrator and now Performance Analyst.
I like the great people I get to work with and the variety of work, support and opportunities available. I find it interesting when I see any trends and I get to delve into them more to find out what is happening. If I see that there are more expenditures I get to look into the background reason and investigate.
I feel my job is the backbone that supports management to make fiscally responsible decisions, and aids in the solid understanding of what is happening in the region. This enables management to make sound decisions that are in the best interests of the clients and Ministry. One thing I've initiated is searching out where clients are located by postal code, which helps to decide where an office should be located.
If you are interested in becoming a Performance Analyst, I'd suggest that you take courses that will teach you the latest technological programs. You have to be the type of person who enjoys computer work and who is constantly improving your skill set. You also have to enjoy working independently. Take chances and take opportunities that are outside of your comfort zone.
