Education: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy; Masters in Pharmacy (University of Saskatchewan);Graduate Certificate In Health Systems Leadership (Royal Roads University)A member of the BC Public Service since: 2006
My Role: I work in the management unit of drug intelligence for the Pharmaceutical Services Division. I am involved in the drug review process and also involved in drug regulated policy development. I am also responsible for preparing communication materials and engaging with internal and external stakeholders. Our branch is responsible for reviewing drug submissions and that information is making decisions on drug coverage assistance.
I first got my undergrad degree, then my Masters. My first job was working in a community pharmacy setting, then a pharmacy that provided services to long-term care facilities. I wanted something challenging and a little bit out of the ordinary, so I came to the BC Public Service.
I like that my job is very challenging and always changing. It provides me with lots of challenges, so it's never boring. I like the opportunities in public service for advancement and continuing education.
We help provide the best medications to British Columbians and ensure a process that is consistent and fair. I was involved in the development of a database for our unit, which was very interesting.
To get into this field, you have to be well organized and meticulous and enjoy a challenging and fast-paced environment. It helps to have worked in a pharmacy setting, so you have feel for it. The minimum education requirement would be a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy.
