Employee Profile Photo
Title:
Regional Director, Service BC Operations
Ministry:
Ministry of Citizens' Services
Background:

Education: Business Administration (Calvin College, Michigan)
Member of the BC Public Service Since: 2001

My Role

I am Regional Director for the Service BC Operations in the north. I oversee teams in 15 different offices whose mandate is to ensure that "access to government services are made easy" for all citizens in Northwestern B.C. I am responsible for making sure the offices are funded, staffed and operating efficiently and are providing services to the public as they should. I also make sure that employees in this region have the tools and training they need to do their jobs effectively. We provide over 60 different programs on behalf of FrontCounter BC for all ministries in the BC Public Service, including ICBC and Residential Tenancy.

Career Path:

I spent several years in the federal government in areas such as Veteran Affairs, Revenue Canada and Tax Interpretations. I started working for the BC Public Service in 2001 in the role I hold today - Regional Director for Service BC Operations in Prince George.

What I Like Best:

I like meeting and working with staff and citizens throughout the northwest of B.C. to ensure their issues related to government services are heard and addressed. I get to solve a wide range of problems. Every day is a new challenge, whether it's solving a bureaucratic maze or a facility issue. It's such a broad scope, that's what makes it so interesting. I have a fantastic, cool job.

Ideas At Work:

I feel my role, along with the entire Northwest team, make a huge difference to citizens in B.C. every day. We help hundreds of citizens access government services and assist them in navigating through the myriad of service choices available to them. Our satisfaction rating by citizens is one of the highest in the province at 96 percent.

Advice:

Any type of hands on experience related to service delivery is beneficial in this position (via web, phone, in person), including service design and service leadership. Get as much Federal, Provincial and Municipal experience as possible. To get into this job you also need some financial experience, but mainly it's all about service. If you are able to listen and understand and come up with solutions to people's problems, you will do well in this role.
