Financial and educational support for a growing career

We can help you achieve your accounting designation and give you the leadership skills that will take you where you want to go. You’ll have access to scholarship programs, mentoring and on-the-job training.

A culture of learning

As our employees strengthen their skills, the entire public service is strengthened along with them. We support our employees throughout their careers, with introductory programs and resources, and help in connecting with peers across ministries along the way. As you begin to chart your career path, the BC Public Service Agency and the Learning Centre can provide skills development in computer applications, project management, leadership methods and other knowledge areas. Along the way, you’ll have ongoing opportunities to try out new projects and roles that interest you.

Certification and education through Pacific Leaders

The BC Public Service can help if you want to get your accounting designation or reach higher levels of certification as well. The Pacific Leaders program offers up to $7,500 in scholarships for tuition and books and forgives one-third of your BC student loan for each year of service after you finish your education—which means your entire provincial loan could be forgiven in just three years. Pacific Leaers can even benefit your family: each year, we offer 60 scholarships of $2,500 each to children of BC public servants.

Financial Management Certificate Program

The Financial Management Certificate Program (FMCP) provides government employees a range of courses in public sector financial management and control.  Operated by the Office of the Comptroller General with support from the BC Public Service Agency’s Learning Centre, the program provides a Certificate upon completion of seven qualifying government financial courses and any nine courses from the CGA or CMA programs of professional studies or equivalents recognized by CGA-BC or CMA-BC. The government courses provide a solid grounding in government financial operations and the CGA/CMA courses provide formal theory. Holders of FMCP Certificates are recognized in government as having earned a paraprofessional certification, and that can enhance their opportunities for advancement.
