When you take an internship with the BC Public Service, you aren't just filling a position for a short-term. An internship with the BC Public Service can be a stepping stone to a fulfilling, long-term career with us. Many current public service employees began with us as interns, including those in very high level positions.

We offer a wide variety of placements in a number of fields, in several ministries. Check with your school to find out more details on internship opportunities within the BC Public Service.

Aboriginal Youth Internship Program
The Aboriginal Youth Internship Program is a unique and innovative program offered by the BC Public Service Agency to eligible Aboriginal youth. It is designed to develop professional skills and leadership abilities through a nine-month placement in a B.C. government ministry or agency, followed by a three-month placement in a selected B.C. Aboriginal organization.

Ministry of Attorney General
The ministry hires articled students who have a strong interest in public service and the practice of public law. It selects candidates who possess the academic, professional and personal qualities that will enable them to become effective public sector lawyers. The ministry looks to its students as a key source of growth and offers them the opportunity to participate fully in providing services to its clients.



Ministry of Children and Family Development
A variety of opportunities are offered each year in all regions of the province. Positions become available in a wide range of streams and include, but are not limited to, psychology, finance and information systems.

Ministry of Environment
Several positions available each year in every region of the province. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to hazardous waste, environmental protection, water quality, and performance analysis.

Ministry of Finance
The ministry awards two 2-year internships per year to provide the hours and experience necessary for students pursuing their CMA, CGA, or CA accreditation. Participants find placements with the Office of the Controller General and have the opportunity to rotate throughout the ministry for the duration of their internship. The ministry also awards 2 internships per year for recent graduates with Masters Degrees in the areas of economics, finance, business administration, public administration and accounting. The two-year program includes rotation opportunities in Treasury Board Staff, government ministries, other central agencies and Crown corporations.

Ministry of Forests and Range
There are opportunities all over the province in the fields of forestry, engineering and agrology.

Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General
In conjunction with the Ministry of Housing and Social Development, the ministry offers a unique internship program that offers graduates a chance to work in three different work units across two ministries for a period of six months each. During these placements the selected interns will be exposed to a number of skills currently in demand in the public sector such as policy, research and project management.

Ministry of Transportation
The Ministry's Technician Entry Level Program (TELP) recruits recent technical school graduates and provides them with supervised work experience, while continually increasing responsibilities to a professional level. The Ministry also has an Engineer-in-Training Program which offers 3 to 4 assignments over a 4 year program in areas all over the province.
