Legal Counsel Level 1: $2,546.40 to $3,298.18 bi-weekly.
Legal Counsel Level 2: $3,517.50 to $4,561.75 bi-weekly.
Legal Counsel Level 3: $4,697.36 to $5,302.20 bi-weekly.

Ministry of Attorney General, Regional Crown Counsel, Prince George is now accepting applications for Crown Counsel positions at various levels for locations within the Northern Region.
As a Crown Counsel, you will be responsible for the prosecution of offences under the Criminal Code, provincial statutes and regulations, certain other federal statutes and some municipal bylaws. The decision to lay charges, which charges to lay, and the conduct of the proceedings in court through to their conclusion are made by Crown Counsel in accordance with Criminal Justice Branch policies and the Crown Counsel Act.
You must be eligible for membership with the Law Society of British Columbia and have the following practical legal experience:
Legal Counsel level 1: up to five years
Legal Counsel level 2: minimum 6 and up to 11 years
Legal Counsel level 3: minimum 12 years
Our ideal candidate also has the following qualifications:
- experience is in the practice of Criminal Law
- good working knowledge of policies and procedures of the Criminal Justice Branch of BC
- excellent knowledge of criminal law and procedures
- exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- superior knowledge of legal ethics as applied to the practice of criminal law
- effectively prioritize a substantial workload
- effective oral and written communication with both legally trained and lay people, children, persons with physical or mental disabilities and/or persons who are emotionally upset or distraught
- liaise with and coordinate the efforts of other criminal justice system users (i.e. police, Court Services, defence bar, etc.)
- routinely exercise significant independent judgement and decision making
- conduct legal research
- provide direction and assistance to junior lawyers
- familiar with computer applications and software packages.
Crown Counsel with administrative experience may be appointed as Administrative Crown Counsel.
Administrative Crown Counsel is responsible for the efficient and effective operation of a Crown Counsel Office as well as file management, trial scheduling, case management, performance appraisals, and inter-Branch and inter-Ministerial liaison.
In addition to the qualifications required of a Crown Counsel, an Administrative Crown Counsel must have:
- Minimum five years experience in the practice of Criminal Law; prosecution experience preferred;
- Minimum two years administrative experience;
- Excellent administrative and communication skills;
- Ability to motivate and provide leadership to staff;
- Ability to manage an office (including personnel and procedural issues)
Salary is calculated in relation to year of call. Applicants with up to five years of call may be eligible for appointment at the Legal Counsel 1 level. Applicants with a minimum of 6 and up to 11 years years of call may be eligible for appointment at the Legal Counsel 2 level. Applicants with a minimum of 12 years of call may be eligible for appointment at the Legal Counsel 3 level.
An eligibility list may be established for vacancies arising within any of the offices in the Region for a period of 12 months.
